<h2>Support for Candidates; Guidelines</h2>The Madison County Democratic Committee supports candidates for local, county, and state elected office. The fundraising events we sponsor are used to raise funds to help us meet this objective; additional funds are provided by the state Democratic Committee to support expenses not used to support a specific candidate or campaign. All expenditures are tracked by the MCDC treasurer and must be reported to the state Board of Elections. To help us track our expenditures, we have developed this <a href="https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc5KTNBJa1H2am_NYmRQzheS4p2KYAgN3KOrSfFwTCYuhr7tg/viewform" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">simple form</a> for requesting MCDC funds. NOTE: Completing the form does not guarantee that funds will be allocated, as all request (even under $200) are subject to approval by MCDC leadership. Immigration "Know Your Rights" training sessions inform people about their constitutional and legal rights and offer approaches for encounters with immigration officials such as ICE. This event is free and open to all. Prior training is helpful but not required. We will host a Sing-Out/Teach-In on Sunday, March 30th from 1 to 3 PM at Madison Hall in Morrisville.Come and join us as we gear up to be loud and proud at upcoming resistance rallies! We will make signs with punchy messages, and we will raise our voices with songs and chants both classic and brand new! Songs and chants will be led by committed musicians from Cortland to Boonville, including Colleen Kattau, Rebecca Miner, Bruce Ward and Steve Blais.Shy novices, grizzled protest veterans and all in between are welcome!No admission charged (donations welcome). Hot beverages and snacks waiting. Some sign making materials provided but bring what you can. Fall of Freedom Event in Morrisville

Community members are invited to a fundraiser on Sunday, November 2, from 2 to 4 p.m., benefiting the people of Ukraine and local refugees. The event will take place in Madison Hall on Route 20 at the north end of the Morrisville State College campus.As Ukraine marks over three years of resisting Russia's full-scale invasion, the gathering highlights the tremendous sacrifices made by Ukrainians in defense of democracy, free speech, and national sovereignty – principles that echo the founding ideals of the United States 250 years ago. Russia's aggression, led by Vladimir Putin, aims not only to subjugate Ukraine but to erase its cultural identity, plunder its resources, and impose a vision of a "greater Russia" through violence and intimidation.The event features compelling presentations by two distinguished scholars, offering insights into the human and historical costs of unchecked authoritarianism. Nancy Ries, emerita professor of anthropology and peace and conflict studies at Colgate University, will speak on "Destroying the World: Russia's Cruel War on Ukraine and Escalating Atrocities at Home." Professor Ries refers to Russia as a "thugocracy," where cruelty and intimidation maintain domestic control, while state resources fuel criminal enterprises worldwide.The keynote address will be delivered by Tetiana Hranchak, a visiting research scholar at Syracuse University's Moynihan Institute of Global Affairs of Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. Her talk, "Russia’s War in Ukraine: Historical Background and Uncertain Future," contextualizes the current war against the background of Russia's long-standing pattern of territorial aggression and genocidal policies. She frames the Russian full-scaled invasion as a broader westward expansion aimed at Russian political dominance and emphasizes Ukraine's key role in deterring aggression. A 20-year researcher at the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine and a board member of the Ukrainian Library Association, Hranchak has personally lost her home to the war and now resides in the U.S.There is no admission fee but attendees are encouraged to donate to three key organizations:· <a href="https://www.razomforukraine.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Razom for Ukraine</a>: A New York City-based nonprofit providing humanitarian aid, training for first responders, and advocacy for Ukrainian causes.· <a href="https://www.ala.org/aboutala/ukraine-library-relief-fund" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Ukraine Library Relief Fund</a> (via the American Library Association): Supporting the Ukrainian Library Association in reconstructing libraries damaged by Russian aggression.· <a href="https://www.thecenterutica.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Resource Center for Refugees in the Mohawk Valley</a> (The Center): Assisting immigrants from diverse backgrounds, including many Ukrainian refugees, amid funding cuts to essential programs. At this time there are no new refugee admissions to the U.S.. The Center continues to support those already settled.The war's toll has been staggering: Russia has suffered approximately 1 million casualties, including 250,000 deaths, while Ukraine reports 300,000 casualties with 60,000 to 80,000 killed (per U.K. and U.S. government estimates). Civilian casualties stand at 49,000, with 16,000 deaths (UN data).This event serves as a call to action, reminding us of the dangers when absolute power corrupts a nation and its media. More than 600 people at the Hamilton Village Green joined 5 million other Americans on June 14 across the country to say 'NO KINGS!'Speakers at Hamilton spoke about how the people's voices and peaceful protests are the true demonstrations of patriotism and democracy.The coast-to-coast rallies made it the largest anti-Trump single-day protest during his second term. No Kings Rally

We are staging a Rally For Resistance from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 1, in the Village of Hamilton.&nbsp;We need to clearly demonstrate to our community and our elected officials that we’re ready to fight and do what is necessary to stop the outrageous actions of the Trump&nbsp;administration. Bring a sign or just yourself&nbsp;as we gather at the northern end of the Village Green. You can park along Broad Street or there is free&nbsp;parking at the Hamilton Public Library.&nbsp; Our theme is resistance, voicing our opposition to Trump's unconstitutional power grab and&nbsp;gutting of&nbsp;the federal workforce, which will harm services that seniors, veterans, farmers, and all of us in Madison County depend on. We want to make clear that NOBODY elected Elon, and he and his minions need&nbsp;to&nbsp;be prevented&nbsp;from accessing sensitive government databases. AND, we need to let folks know how the Republicans' <a href="https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1Fuv2QidhJ/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">proposed budget</a> benefits only the wealthy, and hurts working families in our county.&nbsp; Some tips for Saturday:<ul><li>Lettering on your signs should be thick and easily seen from a distance. &nbsp;Messages on the front AND back are a bonus.</li><li>Keep on the sidewalk and out of the road. We urge everyone to consider voting for her on Nov. 4. Madison County friends: As many of you already know, I am running a quiet write-in campaign for Madison County Sheriff. I am doing this to convey that there are MANY people in our county who oppose Sheriff Todd Hood's signing of a 287(g) agreement to partner with ICE.I’ve been outspoken on this issue, speaking about it in public and presenting letters and statements to the Sheriff and the County Board of Supervisors in July, August, and September. Twice I met with Sheriff Hood and his deputies and conveyed the reasoning behind my opposition to the partnership with ICE. I don't believe that he heard anything I said, and I don't believe he understands the complexity of immigration and documentation or the vulnerability and fear that immigrant communities feel.The ICE Agreement contains a termination clause, and thus the Agreement can be cancelled. It is a good thing to keep the pressure on both the Supervisors and the Sheriff to get him to terminate the 287(g) Agreement.So when you vote, please write me in for Sheriff, to send a message on November 4 that you too oppose ICE mass detentions and deportations. The Sheriff and the Supervisors seem to think that Madison County voters are fine with the Sheriff's Department partnering with ICE. Let's convey collectively that that is not the case. Your vote for me will help to send a strong message.You are welcome to share this post on social media, or to share it directly with your Madison County friends. Even though I have a legally registered campaign, you will not see road signs or TV interviews with me about this. But many people are spreading the word, and I hope to garner enough votes in this write-in campaign to be able to communicate that Madison County voters are NOT okay with the violent, lawless, cruel operations of ICE.

The Ukraine fundraiser held at Madison Hall in Morrisville on Nov. 2 served two purposes:1. The first purpose was to raise money to support the people of Ukraine in their efforts to be free, as well as support some of the refugees in our own community. Thank you to everyone who attended, and thank you if you were able to make a monetary contribution.2. The second purpose was to increase awareness of why it is important to support Ukraine in this conflict. Early on in Vladimir Putin’s takeover, false flag operations were used against the Russian people in which many lives were lost. The purpose of these operations were to galvanize public opinion against supposed enemies. Through control of the media, the Russian people have been acclimatized to persecution of minorities and dissidents. Criticism is criminal. Scenes of cruelty against the people of Ukraine are offered up as entertainment on television.Professor Tetiana Hranchak of the Maxwell School at Syracuse University explained why Putin is hardly the entire problem. Many people in Russia share his view of the world. Russia has a history of invading its neighbors and subjugating them, dating back to the 1400s. The goal of Russia is to dominate governments stretching all the way from its Pacific coast to the coast of Spain on the Atlantic Ocean. The people of Europe take this threat very seriously.
